Kastamonu Entegre at the Top in Energy Efficiency!

A Significant Achievement by Kastamonu Entegre at the 9th Efficiency Project Awards

Kastamonu Entegre at the Top in Energy Efficiency!

Kastamonu Entegre won the first prize in the Energy Efficiency category at the 9th Efficiency Project Awards Ceremony held by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. The outstanding efforts by the company, leading the wood-based panel industry with its projects and innovative solutions for energy management, in sustainability and energy efficiency were once again recognized with this important award.

Companies that put efficiency at the center of their business and made a difference in energy efficiency were awarded at the Efficiency Project Awards ceremony organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade since 2014.  Of 75 finalists in 12 categories, 35 projects were awarded during the award ceremony held at the Informatics Valley with the participation from the Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır. As part of these awards receiving 596 project applications in 2023, Kastamonu Entegre, the global player of the wood-based panel industry, was awarded the first prize in the Energy Efficiency category with the quality circle project "Increasing Efficiency by Thermal Power Station Stack Fan Vibration Dampening" implemented in the Adana plant, while the quality circle and continuous improvement projects run in Gebze and Tarsus Plants were recognized as worthy of thanks.

Bearing in mind the importance attached to sustainability, Kastamonu Entegre executes all its business processes in consideration of environmental, social and economic impacts, and started carbon footprint calculation in 2015 to measure the environmental impact of its production and investments. The company has so far been awarded many national and international prizes for its efforts in this field. Involved in EU projects with its solutions that test circular business models, design smart energy management tools and develop bio-based alternatives as a substitution to fossil-based materials, Kastamonu Entegre will manufacture bio-based insulation panels for use in building materials within the framework of the SNUG Project funded by the European Union's 9th Framework Program "Horizon Europe". With these panels that will be produced entirely from natural resources, it is intended to save energy in buildings and mitigate environmental impacts in construction processes.

Haluk Yıldız: "Energy efficiency plays a key role in our sustainability strategy"

Kastamonu Entegre's CEO Halk Yıldız underlined Kastamonu Entegre's being the first company to prepare a sustainability report in the wood-based panel industry and its leading role in energy management and said, "As a global company originating from these lands, we are aware of our responsibilities to our country, our people and the ecosystem. We take steps with a focus on sustainability in all our production processes and investments. Energy efficiency plays a key role in our sustainability strategy. We enhance our energy efficiency performance every year with the innovative projects we develop. We work very hard to maximize energy efficiency in every area from production to waste management. We are a corporation accredited by many national and international systems on energy management and efficiency. We are the first corporation in the wood-based panel industry not only to prepare a sustainability report but also to achieve both high energy efficiency with less investment cost and more effective waste management thanks to the 'Waste Biomass Gasification' technology. We will continue to work in line with the "2050 Net Zero" target and create value by achieving green and digital transformation together. The awards we receive from reputable organizations makes us further determined on this journey."

Self-powered factory

Awarded the energy efficiency prize, Kastamonu Entegre's Adana MDF plant generates its own electric power with the Hayat-GES 1 Solar Power Station installed on its roof.  In addition, diesel-fueled lift trucks are converted into electric lift trucks in the plant, reducing energy costs and taking an important step towards eliminating C02 emissions due to the use of diesel fuel.
