Bridging Nature and Life Meetings take place for the eleventh time: “Designing the Experience: From Space to Interface”
Kastamonu Entegre hosted the talk on “Designing the Experience: From Space to Interface” during the eleventh session of Bridging Nature and Life Meetings. The session, which featured Prof. Alpay Er, Industrial Designer and Head of the Department of Industrial Design at Özyeğin University, and architect Boğaçhan Dündaralp, founder of DDRLP Architecture Office, assessed the design of the design-driven experience, addressing spatial and digital aspects.
A global brand in the wood-based panel industry, Kastamonu Entegre, hosted a remarkable interview in the eleventh session of Bridging Nature and Life Meetings moderated by Yapı Kataloğu at the KEAS Concept Studio. In the session titled “Designing the Experience: From Space to Interface”, Prof. Alpay Er, Industrial Designer and Head of the Department of Industrial Design at Özyeğin University, and architect Boğaçhan Dündaralp, founder of DDRLP Architecture Office, evaluated the design of experience in depth with its dimensions ranging from real space to interface.
Power of Design and Experience
In his opening remarks, Prof. Alpay Er highlighted the pivotal role of industrial design in today's world. He asserted that the narrative of humanity is inextricably linked to design, and stated that where there is design, there is definitely experience and therefore a commercial market. Using examples ranging from restaurants to architecture, he explained that people will pay more for a better experience. “We have reached a point where we can say we are creating our own artificial nature. Design is a powerful tool for changing human nature. That is why the issue of using design for better purposes is more important than ever,” said Er who emphasized that design is not only functional but also a healing power.

Noting that we are moving toward a future where interfaces are becoming more powerful, Er emphasized that the proper use of these technologies is of great importance to humanity: “Artificial intelligence creates designs faster than we can. However, we need to develop the intellectual ability to evaluate these designs and select the most accurate and optimal one.”
Relationship between architecture and nature spotlighted
In his speech on the effects of spatial design on user experience, architect Boğaçhan Dündaralp highlighted the potential for interfaces to adopt different stances in architectural practice. Dündaralp said, “We all use interfaces in every aspect of our lives. What really matters is to think and decide how to use them for the good of ourselves and of the world in which we actualize ourselves”, expanding on the subject with examples related to architecture.

“When we initiate a project, we recognize the impact of our actions on the environment and strive to minimize our footprint,” Dündaralp said, emphasizing the significance of sustainability. He highlighted the necessity of employing design tools not only for their intended purpose but also with an awareness of their environmental implications.
The Bridging Nature and Life Meetings, which have brought together architects, interior designers, and industry professionals at the KEAS Concept Studio with different themes since 2022, will continue to facilitate discussions on new topics and engage new guests in dialogue with participants.
